The Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra is pleased to continue its collaboration with Davis Brown, Composer in Residence. Davis Brown has been appointed to this position. Mr. Brown is a talented composer and arranger and will continue to provide repertoire for the orchestra for the 2003-2004 season. Davis has been composing music for nearly 25 years, since age 10. He received formal training in composition under the guidance of Raymond Liebau at the University of Mississippi. Brown also holds a law degree and specializes in international law. In 1998, Brown made his first appearance with the CPO, premiering his “Dance of the Moryak” – a piece now regularly featured on local classical music station WDAV/89.9. In addition to orchestral arrangements performed in Charlotte, his band and choir works have premiered in Virginia, Mississippi, New York, Germany, and at UNC-Chapel Hill. During his eight years in the Air Force, Brown wrote the official marches for three commands. The CPO was the first orchestra to feature Brown’s compositions and has performed several of his works over the years, especially his arrangements of Christmas music. However, his new official role with the orchestra means audiences will be treated to original arrangements of known works as well as his original compositions. Brown’s arrangements and compositions will be exclusive to the CPO, further enhancing the uniqueness of the orchestra’s performances. “A composer in residence is a luxury for any orchestra, providing fresh new material. We are fortunate to have someone of Davis Brown’s talent writing original scores and arrangements for the Philharmonic,” says Maestro Albert Moehring. |
